The Ptarian Order is a religious order of Bahamut devoted that seek to emulate the ancient Talons of Justice, and is named after their Ptarian Code. Since its inception the order has become synonymous with city watch, forming the backbone of guard forces in many cities across Varosha and occasionally sending out operatives - called Talons. These Talons will find information on, and if necessary deal with, potential future dangers to the region and people's the order is sworn to protect.
Dogma[edit]
Bahamut's dogma is based on the principles of Justice, Law, and Fairness. He taught his followers to always uphold the highest ideals of the principles; to be constantly vigilant against evil and to oppose it from all fronts; and to protect the weak, liberate the oppressed, and defend just order. Bahamut advocated a "greater justice" that included fighting against evil and toppling oppressive regimes.
The Ptarian Code was initially created by the gold dragon Ptaris, a member of the Talons of Justice, and followed by Bahamut's dragon adepts. It reads:
- Justice and Good above all.
- Protection and Respect to the Righteous Innocence
- Honor and Duty to the Justicemaker
- Honor and Protection to the Lesser Races
- Honor and Correction to the Enemies of Justice and Good
- Honor and Forbearance to Oneself.
The code by itself is largely remained much the same after its adoption as the Order's core tenants.
Rites[edit]
The Ptarian Order has no formal rituals or ceremonies. They - and many who follow the Platinum Dragon - believe in the philosophy of "praying through their deeds".
History[edit]
Organization[edit]
The Ptarian order is a highly structured organization working in a decentralized manner. The Order is largely divided into independent Cantons, each of which have their own area of responsibility.
Each Canton works towards the same or similar goals in accordance with to the Ptarian Code, doing so under its own local command and in a way that fits the needs of the location. Cantons are usually compact - serving at most a city or sparsely populated province, so as to keep their focus contained without the risk of spreading themselves too thin. What is always true, though, is the structure: Each chapter is headed by a Scale Bearer, who often functions as the local guard captain, communicates with other Cantons, and reports to the larger organization of the Order. They command the Conscripts (Ptarian Order initiates) and local guard forces. The Scale Bearer may have one or more Hands under their command as well. A Talon (full title Talon of the Justice Bringer) is an independent agent of the order who either serves a specific Canton, or a specific mission. They have the authority to command conscripts at all times, and depending on their mission even higher ranked officers within the order. I imagine your character would be a Talon, who reports to a Scale Bearer back in Suhder.
