Vayan is the second planet from Astra, and the Prime Material Plane in its own planar system. It is currently thought to be the most populous plane in its planar system and the only celestial object on its material plane known to harbor life - though it is suspected its main satellite and moon Lunaris also harbors life. About 37% of Vayan's surface is land consisting of continents and island. The remaining 63% is covered with water, mostly by oceans but also by lakes, rivers, and other fresh water.

Life as known by its inhabitants was created by creatures now known as Immortals or Gods. Credit of this creation is unproven but most often accredited to Eldath, Lathender, Pelor, or one only known as Matron or Mother.

Geographically the planet is divided in seven distinct continents and a number of seas and oceans.
